Most family-friendly employer 2023 in the Internet Industry

Being 'family-friendly' is a label many companies like to use. However, for us, it's more than just a buzzword; it's an integral part of our company culture. This is also reflected in our latest award as the 'Most Family-Friendly Employer,' of which we are incredibly proud. At AOE, balancing work and family is not an empty promise, but a lived reality.

Family-friendliness is becoming increasingly important in job choice, and not just for parents. According to the "Future Talents Report 2023," this is also a key issue for young people. It also involves support for the care of relatives. In short: A good employer should be attentive to the individual life situations of its employees. And how a company implements this can vary greatly.

Most family-friendly employer: AOE takes 1st place in the Internet Industry

For the eighth time in Germany and the fourth year in Austria, kununu, in collaboration with Freundin magazine, has recognized the compatibility of family and work, a good work-life balance, well-being factors, as well as equal career opportunities for employers.

AOE stands out against very strong competition and takes the top spot with a score of 4.69 (out of a possible 5) in the category "Internet".

The ranking criteria

Based on over two million employee reviews for more than 250,000 companies on kununu.com, specific criteria had to be met:

  • At least 50 reviews on kununu
  • At least one review since January 1, 2023
  • An overall score of at least 3.5 (out of a possible five stars)
  • At least 3.3 stars in specific review categories
  • Certain benefits such as remote work or childcare must be available

Current and former employees from all work groups, industries, and career levels evaluated, in addition to the work atmosphere, social benefits, work-life balance, salary, and gender equality, primarily family-friendly offerings like flexible working hours, childcare, and company pension schemes.

Redefining freedom in the workplace

Flexibility as a Basic Principle: Since the transition to remote work in 2020, AOE has made flexibility the rule. Employees have the option to work both in the office and remotely, even up to 3 months in EU countries, and also have the freedom to adjust their working hours and scope. We know that taking time off is important, which is why we offer 30 vacation days as standard, as well as the option for a sabbatical and unpaid leave. Each year, employees are provided up to €2,000 for professional and personal development.

Furthermore, we make life easier during family challenges, such as by offering paid leave for child sickness days (up to 10 days per year) without requiring a medical certificate. With our comprehensive health package, we support employees in their physical and mental health. OpenUp provides psychological counseling for employees—free of charge and anonymous, whether for work-related or private matters. With a discounted EGYM WELLPASS membership, AOE employees and their partners can engage in unlimited sports activities, including access to yoga studios, gyms, swimming, climbing halls, and more, with access to over 7,500 sports and wellness facilities in Germany and Austria.
